Covenant House Washington opens first teen mom pregnant and parenting emergency housing facility in Washington D.C.
Washington, DC– Covenant House Washington opens the Districts first emergency teen pregnant and parenting housing facility named Elizabeth’s House. Elizabeth’s House will provide pregnant and teenage mothers with the same comprehensive supportive services provided to all CHW youth with special emphasis on immediate short-term emergency housing, parenting resource classes, infant readiness, and reunification with a stable relative or guardian.
Elizabeth’s House provides safe housing for 13 teen mothers ages 12-18 and their infants. The goal of the “Elizabeth’s House” is reunification, to get teen mothers connected back with a stable relative or guardian.
“It’s critical to provide pregnant and parenting teens with safe housing, because their child/s and themselves are extremely vulnerable on the streets and alone” – says Covenant House Washington, Elizabeth’s House Senior Advisor, Nate Harris.
At the Elizabeth House, CHW staff provides youth with parenting coaching skills and cooking skills. CHW Child Development programs help infants and toddlers grow academically and socially giving them a head start for Pre-K.
